Abstract As a worldwide phenomenon, ‘the Heritage Site Tourism’ has become an effective form for people to be in great harmony with the outside world. It has also become an integral part of social life for people to get back to nature or history in high quality. By July 2008, the number of world heritage sites in our country has reached 37, of which 26 are cultural heritage sites, 7 are natural sites, and 4 are mixed sites. Since the 1980s and 1990s, the research on the heritage tourism has become a hot issue in academic circle of tourism. After China's first batch of properties' inscription onto the World Heritage List in 1987, China's world heritages have enjoyed a growing reputation at home and abroad, and the number of foreign visitors to those sites has been increased dramatically. With the development of our country's world heritage sites, the theoretical research about the heritage site tourism in China has also developed quickly. In general, the contents of domestic research about world heritage site tourism are wide, and we also have made some achievements. But problems exist in the current literatures which are not systematic and thorough. Because of this, in order to strengthen the research on the world heritage site tourism and promote the development of the world bibliography, the paper attempts to make a systematical overview of the research progress of China's World Heritage site tourism from the following perspectives:the intension of the heritage site tourism, the value of the heritage site, the development of the heritage site tourism and its protection, the marketing of the heritage site tourism and so on. Based on this, the author explores the theories that further study should be conducted in the research of the world heritage site tourism in our country, and makes an intensive study in the following perspectives:the value analysis and development model of heritage site tourism, the stakeholders in the development of heritage site tourism, the marketing of heritage site tourism, utilization of the information technologies to protect heritage resources in the heritage site, the quantitative kinetic model research of the heritage site tourism.
